WWII Rifles
WWII rifles have long been a favorite among collectors. There were a wide variety of guns used, and that era saw many innovations in design. WWII was a demanding conflict and arms manufacturers struggled to keep troops in weapons and ammunition. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of collectors worldwide, there are numerous examples of WWII rifles to be seen.
There are many notable WWII rifles. Among them was the American made M1 Garand, which had the distinction of being the first semi-automatic rifle to be used by the military. This weapon was well designed and dependable and remained in use by the military well into the 1950's. The Americans also produced the M1 Carbine, a lightweight semi-automatic that came into military use in 1942. The lightweight design of this gun made it a favorite of fighting troops.
The British also produced exceptional WWII rifles. The De Lisle carbine was one of the more specialized WWII rifles. Comparatively few were produced and these were issued to British commando troops and special forces. Very accurate and remarkably quiet, this .45 caliber weapon was deadly accurate. So well-made was this WWII weapon that after the war, most of those remaining were destroyed for fear of falling into the hands of unsavory characters.
The Germans were well-known for their WWII rifles. The Gewehr 98 was the standard issue rifle for German troops in both the first and second world wars. It boasted dependable design and mechanisms, as well as excellent range and accuracy. The Japanese used several types of weapons, and notable among these was the Arisaka Type 38. These bolt-action rifles were known for their dependability and accuracy.
If you are active duty or a retired military personnel, you could qualify for military loans from the military loan company.
WWII rifles were notable in many ways, especially those that were designed under pressure to quickly meet the special needs of the servicemen as wartime fighting itself began to change from the older styles of war. The WWII rifles that remain in private and public collections offer a sobering portrait of the battlefield.
